Five sisters five souls.
This work was created during the artist’s first years in Amsterdam. It reflects the memory of her sisters and herself, the trees,
color and textures of the dresses, the mushrooms and types of birds depicting the soul and how they interacted with their souls at that time.
The eldest sister, slender birch trees with behind her the moon she reaches for, a yellow dress in a swaying pattern, growing from the chanterelle an edible mushroom, her bird the oriole she lets loose and fly free: her soul in free flight.
The second sister, behind sturdy beech trees with round trunks, a red sensual dress standing on a poisonous fly agaric. She holds above her head the sacred red ibis, the soul, firmly grasped by the claws.
The third sister, behind her pine trees representing hope and also suffering, a green rectilinear dress, standing on friendly edible squirrels, a colorful parrot, the soul in a golden cage….
The fourth sister, in front of alder trees which blooms before it has leaves, an undemanding mythological tree, when cut, the pale wood turns deep orange, givig the impression that it is bleeding, people feared alder trees, thinking it brought bad luck. A blue dress in a delicate motive water pattern. Standing on ink mushrooms, language through writing. Her soul, a silent crow close and cozy with her, but not direct in contact.
The youngest sister, surrounded by pollard willows, symbol of rebirths, standing on elfin bench, a medicinal mushroom supported fatigue and symbol of immortality. A colorless robe, white with transparent flower-beads but the cloak is brown. The soul bird is the black woodpecker, throbbing, communicating.
