Hebban olla vogala (ca. 1083) has long been regarded as the oldest known phrase in Old Dutch.
In 1932 it was discovered by the English Germanist Kenneth Sisam on the last page of an Old English sermon manuscript in Oxford from Rochester Cathedral.

Here it merely served as a source of inspiration; a bird (peacock) a waiting person, a forest and rye eggs…
